As touched as I am by all your kind messages, and I am very touched indeed, please remember that I was just holed up in my lazy pit, oblivious to the carnage outside, the heroics of the emergency services and people on tubes and buses having their faces bombed off. Much as I would love to report that I had been dynamic and brave, I was in fact just lazy and lucky. Not so 50 other poor commuters.

It�s been the usual meaningless but sincere political reaction. You know Blair�s serious because he has started pausing. after. every. word. he. says. He sounds like Captain Kirk. (And did anyone else think that when Blair talked in front of the G8 leaders yesterday, the ones stood behind him al looked like plastic Star Wars action figures of themselves?)

It�s all very well, but it would be so refreshing for someone to say, �Look, there really isn�t anything we can do about these kinds of attacks. You just have to try and be vigilant.� Because that�s pretty much the size of it. As Bruce said last night � that could so easily just have been four nutters not affiliated to anyone at all who made their own bombs and got onto tubes at the same time.

The government, of course, hint at fundamental groups whilst maintaining that there are currently no suspects whilst talking about �these people� who �will not terrorise us�. First of all, they just have. Secondly, if you have no suspects, which �these people� are we meant to be talking about exactly?

And who would be a London Muslim this weekend? Call me a yellow chicken, but I would not want to be at the mercy of a nation whose people have been known to mob together and attack the offices of paediatricians because they mixed them up with paedophiles. This is the kind of mentality we are dealing with � forget that all the senior Muslim leaders have utterly condemned the attacks.

But anyway. Tonight we�ll go out and see what London has to say about things. It will be quite a bit after a few pints, I think.
